BeatKey Tools for Studio One

BPM and Key Detector

Upload any sample, loop, or stem. Get BPM, musical key, and Camelot code instantly.

Open Tool

Studio One use: detect BPM before "Set Tempo From Clip" to verify Studio One's auto-detection. Detect key to set the Song Key and enable correct Chord Track behavior.

Interactive Camelot Wheel

Visual harmonic mixing chart. Find compatible keys for Studio One's Chord Track.

Open Tool

Studio One use: plan which samples and loops can mix together using the Camelot code from BeatKey's key detection. Compatible keys in the Camelot Wheel are safe to layer in the Arranger Track.

Chord Finder

Detects chord progressions from any audio file. No login, no limits.

Open Tool

Studio One use: detect chords in a sample, then enter the progression into the Studio One Chord Track. Instruments following the Chord Track will automatically adapt to the harmonic movement.

BPM Delay Calculator

Calculates exact ms values for BPM-synced delay. Covers every note value.

Open Tool

Studio One use: open Analog Delay plugin, switch from note-value mode to ms mode. Enter the dotted eighth value from the calculator for rhythmic delay that locks to your project tempo.

Scale Finder

Scale notes for all 18 scale types in all 12 keys. Includes all 7 modes.

Open Tool

Studio One use: once you know your key (from BeatKey), look up the scale notes and configure Piano Roll Scale Highlight. The Scale Finder covers all modes Studio One supports including Dorian, Mixolydian, and Phrygian.

Note Frequency Calculator

Hz values for every note, MIDI chart, 808 tuning guide, and chromatic tuner.

Open Tool

Studio One use: tune 808 bass hits in the Impact XT sampler. Set the root note by matching the sample's pitch to the exact Hz from notes.beatkey.app. C1 = 32.7 Hz, D1 = 36.7 Hz, G1 = 49.0 Hz.

Studio One Sample Flip Workflow

  1. 1

    Detect BPM and Key

Upload your sample to BeatKey. Note the BPM, key, and Camelot code.

  2. 2

    Set Studio One Project Tempo

Right-click the audio clip in the Timeline. Select "Set Tempo From Clip" or manually enter the detected BPM in the Song Setup (Song menu > Song Setup > General). Enable "Stretch Audio Files" to lock the sample to the grid.

  3. 3

    Set the Song Key

In Studio One's Song Setup, set the Key to match BeatKey's detected key. This enables the Chord Track and Piano Roll Scale Highlight to work with your sample.

  4. 4

    Add the Chord Track

Use the Chord Finder at chords.beatkey.app to detect chords in the sample. Add a Chord Track to your Studio One Song and enter the chord progression. Instruments following the Chord Track will harmonize automatically.

  5. 5

    Tune the 808 or Bass

Add a bass hit in Impact XT. Use notes.beatkey.app to find the exact Hz for the root note of your sample's key. Set the Impact XT root note to match. The 808 will now play in tune with your sample automatically from the Piano Roll.

  6. 6

    Set BPM-Synced Delay

Open Analog Delay or any delay plugin. Go to delay.beatkey.app, enter your BPM, and copy the dotted eighth ms value. Switch Analog Delay from note divisions to ms mode and enter the value.

6 Studio One Workflow Tips with BeatKey

Chord Track Power

Studio One's Chord Track is one of its most underused features. After detecting your sample's chords with Chord Finder, populate the Chord Track. Every instrument set to "Follow Chord Track" will automatically adapt to the chord changes. Combine with BeatKey's key detection to set the Song Key first.

Scratch Pad Exploration

Studio One's Scratch Pad lets you try alternative arrangements. Before exploring in Scratch Pad, use BeatKey to detect the BPM and key of all your samples. Knowing the keys upfront means every new arrangement idea starts with harmonically compatible material.

Impact XT Root Note Tuning

When loading 808 bass hits into Impact XT, use notes.beatkey.app to look up the exact Hz for the root note of your song's key. Set the Impact XT root note to match. Your 808 will now automatically play at the right pitch when triggered from the Piano Roll.

Piano Roll Scale Highlight

Studio One's Piano Roll has a Scale Highlight mode. Use scales.beatkey.app to look up the notes for your key and scale type. The Scale Finder covers Dorian, Mixolydian, Phrygian, and all 18+ scale types. Match the root key from BeatKey's detection and enable the correct scale in Studio One's Scale Highlight.

Analog Delay in Ms Mode

Studio One's Analog Delay defaults to note value mode (1/4, 1/8, etc.). Switch to ms mode for exact BPM-synced values. Use delay.beatkey.app to calculate dotted eighth delay for rhythmic effect (The Edge style) or quarter note delay for ambient pads. Enter the exact ms value after switching modes.

Harmonic Mixing in Arranger

Use BeatKey to check the key of every sample before importing. The Camelot Wheel at beatkey.app/camelot-wheel shows which keys are compatible. In Studio One's Arranger Track, only layer samples whose Camelot numbers are within 1 step or share the same number. This prevents harmonic clashes without needing to transpose anything.

Studio One Producer FAQ

How do I find the BPM of a sample in Studio One?

Upload your sample to BeatKey (beatkey.app). It detects the BPM and musical key instantly in your browser using audio analysis. Once you have the BPM, right-click the audio clip in Studio One and select "Set Tempo From Clip" or manually enter the detected BPM in the Song Setup. Studio One's Chord Track and audio stretching will then align correctly with your sample.

How do I find the key of a sample in Studio One?

Studio One 6 can detect key for audio events in some contexts, but BeatKey (beatkey.app) gives you instant BPM + key + Camelot code for any audio file you upload. Upload your sample, get the key in seconds, then set the Studio One Song Key to match. With the song key set correctly, the Chord Track and Scale mode in the Piano Roll will highlight the right notes for your sample.

How do I calculate BPM-synced delay in Studio One?

Use the BPM Delay Calculator at delay.beatkey.app. Enter your Studio One project BPM and get exact milliseconds for every note value. In Studio One, open Analog Delay or any delay plugin, switch to ms mode, and enter the value. For the dotted eighth delay (rhythmic, The Edge style), use the dotted eighth column in the calculator. For slapback rockabilly delay, use 50-120ms from the eighth note column.

How do I find chords in a sample for Studio One?

Upload the sample to the Chord Finder at chords.beatkey.app. It detects the chord progression in any audio file you upload. Once you have the chords, enter them into the Studio One Chord Track so other instruments and the Piano Roll follow the same harmonic movement. This is especially useful for sample flipping and building new arrangements on top of existing loops.

What scales work with Studio One's Scale mode in the Piano Roll?

Studio One's Piano Roll has a Scale Highlight mode. Look up any scale at scales.beatkey.app to see all notes for any root key and scale type. BeatKey covers 18+ scale types including all 7 modes, pentatonic, blues, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and whole tone. Match the root key (from BeatKey's key detection) and choose a scale type to set Studio One's Scale Highlight correctly.
